First of all, a warm hello to all new subscribers. I'm so glad you're here. Most authors do a welcoming series of emails to ‘warm you up’, but I'm totally lacking in that department. So, WELCOME to my random posts.
I'm back from holiday and am flailing from one task to another. Being away for a month made me realise how much my everyday life is ruled by the tyranny of lists.
On holiday, I lived in the moment and took time to absorb the world and appreciate life's simple pleasures - which brings me to the booties. By the way, that's totally the wrong name. They are the protective footwear you wear for aqua sports. Not that I'd go anywhere near an aqua sport, but I saw them in a bargain basement shop one day and thought, ‘They might come in handy.’
And they turned out to be a lifesaver on the shingled beaches on the Côte d'Azur. As others picked their way through the pebbles, I ran down to the sea with smug abandon.
Other highlights were the wild flamingos in the Camargue, the sun shining into a cloister, and nuns singing outside the church in Arles. I'll post a video of that in Buttersley's-Best Facebook group.
Also, my friend getting trapped in a public toilet made the top ten on my list. 🤣 (Sorry for laughing, Michelle, but at least I'm not posting a photo of that one. 😱).
On the ferry home, my friend and I took pity on the young man from the whale watch charity 🐋 who was sitting in a corner with his collection tin. No one had turned up for his Q&A session. Fresh from her toilet incarceration, Michelle rattled off her questions, and I enthusiastically joined in. Somehow we ended up interrogating Andy about his personal life until his eyes started twitching. In our defence, thirty-six hours on a car ferry is a long time to fill.
Later, when we were the ONLY attendees at his ‘Whale Watch’ session, Andy had a ‘bunny caught in a fish net’ look about him. At least we saw a dolphin🐬 right next to the boat.
On to Books:
I've got two books in the pipeline, but I'm way behind schedule. The first is Copy Cat Death At Merangs. An old friend of Helen's resurfaces. I’ve finished the book, but my critique group needs to maul it first before it goes to my editor.
The second is Summer Death At Merangs. It features Buttersley's local gentry. I've given myself until the end of October to complete it.
Once that's done, I'll concentrate on producing paperbacks of the first three books. They should have been out ages ago.
The story so far for the ebooks.
And that's a wrap – apart from, Buttersley's Facebook group NEEDS YOU. I've only just started the group and love connecting with readers. We all need to start somewhere, but 26 members is just embarrassing. Join for the singing nuns and make the hills come alive.
Love from Carole xxxx
