In my upcoming book, The Murder Away From Merangs, I've included my version of a map.
A fellow author suggested a map would be helpful, but I was clueless about where to begin. Looking at maps in other novels, their apparent simplicity gave me false confidence.
My early attempts were like the doodles of a ham-fisted monkey.π And, after using graph paper and a ruler, I produced a boring, flat image, which I hurled at the bin.
To liven it up, I incorporated elements of the story in the form of short, handwritten notes, and finally, it began to take shape β or at least it did in my mind.
I was working to a deadline and needed to send the book to my advanced reader team. But I couldn't even tell if the map was the right way up any more. With time running out, there was no opportunity to get a second opinion.
After pressing SEND, I noticed my blunder. ππ
